Project Mentor and Consultant for Director Colette Ghunim
Traces of Home is a feature documentary that explores migration, trauma, and identity through an intimate family journey. In order to discover her cultural roots, filmmaker Colette Ghunim embarks on a trip with her parents to find their ancestral homes in Mexico and Palestine they were forced to leave decades ago. While navigating physical borders in both lands, her family’s internal barriers break down, exposing the traumas that forced them to leave and continue to challenge dynamics together.
Traces of Home catalyzed through Kartemquin Films’ Diverse Voices in Docs Program where Dan served as a mentor for Colette and continues working with her as a production and story consultant as the project blossoms, having been selected to participate in the first year of the Hulu/Kartemquin Accelerator.
